The Sailing Boat Chums

OCTOBER 27TH. - LOWESTOFT, SUFFOLK.

At 12.45 in the afternoon the coastguard reported that a sailing boat was drifting towards the sands. She appeared to be in difficulties. A westerly breeze was blowing, and the sea was moderate. A watch was kept on the boat. By 1.45 she had drifted to the inner shoal of Newcombe Sands. The motor life-boat Michael Stephens was launched at 1.55 and found the sailing boat Chums, with one man and three boys on board. She was leaking and they were exhausted with rowing. The life-boat towed them to Lowestoft, and arrived back at her station at three o’clock. - Rewards, £4 15s.
