OCTOBER 27TH. - WALMER, KENT. At 8.20 at night the Deal coastguard reported that two men had put out in the rowing boat Kittywake earlier in the day and had not returned.

A moderate north-westerly breeze was blowing and the sea was slight. The motor life-boat Charles Dibdin (Civil Service No. 2) was launched at 8.30 and made a wide search but found nothing. She arrived back at her station at 12.15 next morning. Another message came from the coastguard at 7.58, that a small boat had been seen a mile eastnorth- east of the coastguard station making distress signals. The life-boat again put out at 8.15. She found the Kittywake two miles off St. Margarets Bay, took off the two men and towed her to Walmer arriving at 9.30 that morning. - Rewards : first service, £31 11s. 6d. ; second service, £14 5s..
