Artistic, of Macduff
OCTOBER 26TH. - WHITEHILLS, BANFFSHIRE.
At 5.46 in the evening the coastguard reported that a small boat appeared to be disabled two miles north of Banff. A moderate south-easterly breeze was blowing, with a choppy sea. The motor life-boat Civil Service No. 4 was launched at six o’clock and found the motor boat Artistic, of Macduff, stopped. She had two on board. They had been fishing. The younger man had fallen overboard. The other, who was his fatherin- law, had received an injury to his spine while trawling during the war. He had not been strong enough to haul the other aboard again, so had lashed him to the gunwhale.
Three life-boatmen went on board the boat, and lifted the man who was lashed to the gunwhale.
He was dead. The life-boat towed the boat to Whitehills, and arrived back at her station at nine that night. - Rewards, £16 8s. 6d..
