The honorary secretary heard a shout for help from a man swimming a long way from the shore in heavy breakers, and the motor life-boat Laurana Sarah Blunt was launched at 1.27 P.M. When she reached the swimmer, one of the life-boatmen, George Kay, dived overboard and held the man up until both were taken into the life-boat.

Artificial respiration was applied to the rescued man until he was landed and handed over to the care of a doctor, but he died later.
