JANUARY 20TH. - ROSSLARE HARBOUR, CO. WEXFORD. On the afternoon of the 20th January the Athlone Broadcasting Station asked listeners to inform the life-boat authorities that a vessel was in distress. She was the Greek steamer Eleni, of Ithaca, in difficulties off Raven Point.

Coxswain J. Wickham, who was ill in bed, got up and went out in the life-boat, but collapsed. The life-boat found nothing, and the steamer sent a message cancelling her call as she had been helped by another vessel.

- Partly permanent paid crew. Rewards, £2 7s.
