At 5.45 A.M. information was received that a British aeroplane, some twenty miles due east, was making for Wick.

A few minutes later it was reported that she was down in the sea two miles S.E. of Sarclet Head. A fresh S.E. breeze was blowing, with a short swell. The motor life-boat City of Edinburgh was launched at 6.20 A.M. and searched without success until, about 11 A.M., she found the body of an airman floating close to the cliffs at Whaligoe.
