A Ship’s Boat (1)
APRIL 2 9TH. - BALLYCOTTON, CO. CORK. At 10.50 A.M. the lighthouse reported a partly submerged ship’s boat about one and a half miles to the south-west, and the motor life-boat Mary Stanford was launched at 11 A.M. An easterly breeze was blowing, with a moderate sea. On her way the lifeboat passed two floating mines. She found the boat in the fairway of traffic and towed her back, reaching her station again at noon.
The boat appeared to have been in the water a long time. It had some gear aboard and a log entered up to the 17th December, 1940, but there was nothing by which it could be identified. It was handed over to the military authorities. - Rewards, £4 10s. 6d..
