At 6.25 A.M. the coastguard reported that an aeroplane had crashed in the sea three miles south of Blyth. A light S.W.

breeze was blowing with a choppy sea. The motor life-boat Joseph Adlam was launched at 6.50 A.M. One survivor from the aeroplane was picked up by a naval speed boat, and the life-boat found a parachute, but the other two airmen could not be found, and the bodies were recovered later by a naval speed boat.
