At about 2 A.M. the coastguard telephoned that a British bomber had crashed n e a r S k e g n e s s P i e r . A l i g h t , v a r i a b l e northerly wind was blowing, and the sea was smooth. The motor life-boat Anne Allen was launched at 2.50 A.M. She picked up the body of a dead airman, and brought it ashore.
