At 6.36 A.M. the coastguard informed the life-boat authorities that the trawler Washington, of Grimsby, was ashore near Duncansby Head. The weather was very foggy, with a fresh southerly breeze and a rough sea. The motor life-boat City of Edinburgh was launched at 7 A.M. and found the trawler, but she had already got off.
