Services by the Life-boats of the Institution and by Shore-boats during 1939 During the year life-boats were launched 685 times. Of these launches 200 were to vessels and aeroplanes in distress through attack by the enemy or from other causes due to the war. War was declared at eleven in the morning of the 3rd of September.
