Two heavy explosions at sea had been reported. The life-boat went first to the East Newcombe Buoy but found nothing.

She then went north to Corton Light-vessel which told her that she had fired two warning guns and that two underwater reports had been reported to the west. The life-boat searched in that direction but found nothing.
