At 2 A.M. a message was received from the Wyke Regis coastguard that a small yacht was showing red flares a quarter of a mile east of Portland Bill. The weather was fine and the sea calm. The motor life-boat Williamand Clara Ryland was launched at 2.25 A.M.

She found the motor yacht Jane, of Poole, with a crew of two, her engine broken down.

She took her in tow and retuned to Weymouth at 5.30 A.M. - Rewards, £10..
