Information had been received through the coastguard from the senior naval officer atNewcastle that there had been a collision off Marske, one of the vessels being H.M. Destroyer Javelin. The life-boat, with Captain E. Combes, the honorary superintendent on board, searched for three hours, could find no vessel in need of help, and it was reported later that the destroyer had reached Hartlepool.
