FEB. 18TH. - WHITBY, YORKSHIRE.

During the morning a fresh N.W. wind was blowing, with a very rough sea. It was breaking heavily from the Pier Ends to the Rock Buoy, and anxiety was felt for the safety of nine of the local motor fishing vessels which were just returning. The motor life-boat Mary Ann Hepworth was launched at 10.15 A.M. She went out to the Rock Buoy and escorted each of the vessels in turn into the harbour. On five occasions it was necessary for the life-boat to use her drogue from the Rock Buoy to the harbour. After escorting the Endeavour, Progress, Easter Morn, Prosperity, Venus, Gallilee, Provider, Success and Pilot Me to safety, the life-boat returned to her station at 2 P.M.-Rewards, £8 5s. 6d..
