A Vessel (10)

Nov. 23RD. - MARGATE, KENT. A message had been received from the coastguard that a vessel was sinking four miles east of the Tongue Light-vessel. The life-boat was launched at 4.15 P.M. When she reached the position given she could see a light; as she neared it she was given the signal that she was standing into danger. Soon the mast and funnel of the steamer could be seen, and the life-boat found a torpedo boat rescuing her crew. Fourteen had been rescued.

Three had been killed by an explosion. The life-boat’s help was not needed and she returned to her station. - Rewards, £23 6s..
