The relief Trent class lifeboat Corinne Whiteley, stationed in Whitby this Autumn while the town’s regular lifeboat was having a refit in Scotland, is pictured in near-gale conditions on 17 September.

In 5m breaking seas, the trawler Defiant was having trouble making it home to Whitby Harbour. The lifeboat crew advised the skipper to make for Scarborough, where the harbour entrance was more suitable in the prevailing poor conditions.
