Perranporth Lifeguard Deshko Matthews was on patrol on 6 April when he noticed a young surfer being dragged out past the breaking waves by a rip current.

The strong offshore wind started to blow the teenager out to sea. Deshko immediately went in on a rescue board and paddled through the surf to bring him safely back to shore. The young man thanked Deshko, and returned an hour later with a huge Easter egg to show his appreciation.
