First season success Glorious sunshine brought many to Croyde and Woolacombe beaches, North Devon, on 11 June 2006, but high surf and strong rip currents combined to make a busy day for RNLI lifeguards. They used their rescue watercraft to pluck seven swimmers from a rip current and their rescue boards to rescue 13 closer to shore. Their first aid training came to the fore for a casualty with a broken ankle and several more suffering cuts and head injuries having been struck by surfboards. (Also see page 5.).
