This unique post was orginally established in 1536 when the services of a guide were essential to avoid the treacherous quicksands when cutting across the bay at low tide. The book includes chapters on Morecambe lifeboat and Bay Hovercraft Rescue, the predecessor to the RNLI Hovercraft service that now operates at Morecambe.
