Designed by J. A. McLachlan the ragged chine inshore lifeboat was intended to have a greater offshore capability than the D class inflatable. A succesful boat (her helmsman winning a Bronze Medal in 1975) the class was eventually superseded by the arrival of the rigid inflatable Atlantic 21.
