Facts and Figures Provisional statistics as at 20 May 1994 show that so far during 1994: The RNLI's lifeboats were launched 446 times (an average of 3 launches a day) 146 lives were saved (an average of one a day) Some 11 % of all services carried out by lifeboats were in winds of Force 8 and above More than 38% of all services were to pleasure craft (sail, power and manual pleasure craft) There are 274 lifeboats on station, with a further 100 in the relief fleet.

To 20 May 1994 1993,125,376 lives have been saved since the RNLI was founded in 1824.

Costs The cost of running the RNLI in 1993 was £46m.

The approximate current cost of building a lifeboat is: 16ft D class inflatable - £11,000 7.5m Atlantic rigid inflatable - £61,000 14m Trent - £1,025,000 17m Severn - £1,380,000.
