The 39ft Constanze sinking by the bow, broaches heavily under tow in a Force 6 to 7 wind. Despite various attempts the crew of the Dover lifeboat could not prevent her sinking just two miles away from Dover. The crew of six German yachtsmen was taken off before the tow began and two lifeboatmen and a pump had battled to save her.
