A Coble

Lightning strike Bridlington's Mersey class 1 ifeboat Peggy and Alex Caird, alerted in the service above, is pictured in action later, on 27 June 1989, when she was called to the aid of a Whitbyregistered coble. The vessel had been struck by lightning, putting most of her equipment out of action and starting a severe leak. The skipper and one crewman had rowed their dinghy ashore to dial 999 and raise the alarm and by the time the lifeboat arrived the coble was full almost to the gunwales. The boat was towed to the safety of Bridlington and her three-man crew landed safely. (Photo courtesy Bridlington Free Press).
