Obituaries

With deep regret we record the following deaths: MARCH 1988: Mrs Marjorie Lambert, committee member and patron of Birmingham Branch from 1985 to 1988. She had previously been vice chairman of the Edgbaston and Harborne Ladies' Guild until 1971, becoming chairman from 1971 to 1975 and president until 1978. Mrs Lambert was awarded a silver badge in 1984.

AUGUST 1988: Mrs D.N. King, president of the Knowle and Dorridge Ladies' Guild from 1983 to 1985. She was chairman of the guild from 1968 to 1982 and was awarded a silver badge in 1977.

SEPTEMBER 1988: Vice Admiral Sir Frank Mason, KCB, chairman of Hurstpierpoint and District Branch for very many years. He was awarded a silver badge in 1978.

OCTOBER 1988: Mr F. Adsetts. president of the Bolsover Branch from 1976 to 1988.

Mrs Enid Foster, honorary secretary of Widnes Ladies'Guild from 1977. She had been involved with the guild for over 30 years, holding the offices of assistant honorary secretary 1962 to 1971 and chairman from 1971 to 1977. Mrs Foster was awarded a silver badge in 1984.

Mrs W.E. Wyman, vice president of Cheltenham Branch from 1974 to 1988.

NOVEMBER 1988: Captain George Flett, coxswain of Aberdeen lifeboat from I949to I960 when he resigned due to ill health. He was second coxswain from 1937 to 1943 and was awarded a bronze medal in 1937.

Mrs Margaret Gregory, honorary box secretary of Wolverhampton Branch since 1978, and a branch helper since 1969.

Mrs Majorie Hearmon, donor of the Mumbles D class lifeboat.

DECEMBER 1988: Mrs Doris Willdig, president of Coventry Ladies' Guild from 1972 to 1988. She was chairman of the guild from 1963 to 1972 and was awarded a silver badge in 1973 and a gold badge in 1983.

John Roberts, coxswain of Sennen Cove lifeboat from 1948 until his retirement in 1959. He joined the crew in 1910 on the pulling and sailing lifeboat Ann Newhon. becoming second coxswain in 1944.

Mr A.E. Turner, who together with his wife founded the New Romney & Romney Marsh Branch in 1953. He was awarded a eold badae in 1975.

Mrs Elsie Farr. honorary life president of the Lifeboat Enthusiasts' Society and widow of Grahame Farr. Mr Farr was honorary archivist of the LBES and after his death she took over the task of providing information from the archives and ensuring its usefulness to the RNLI.

Cecil Picknett, last surviving crew member of the pulling lifeboat Fifi and Charles stationed at Redcar from 1907 to 1931. In 1931 he was appointed assistant mechanic of Redcar's first motor lifeboat Louisa Poldeit, a post he held u n t i l his resignation in 1946.

JANUARY 1989: Captain T.R. Phinn, station honorary secretary at Ramsgate from 1980 to 1989.

Peter Gilson, deputy launching authority at Southend-on-Sea from 1986 until his death. He joined Southend lifeboat crew in 1947, and was bowman from 1953 to 1954 and second coxswain for one year in 1955 before being appointed coxswain in 1956until 1976. MrGilson was also the station honorary secretary from 1979 to 1986.

FEBRUARY 1989: Miss E. Nairn, honorary secretary and treasurer of Nairn Ladies' Guild from 1979 to 1985. From 1985 to 1986 she was the honorary secretary and was then souvenir secretary. Miss Nairn represented Nairn on the executive committee of the Scottish Lifeboat Council from 1981 to 1984.

Mr George Wyeth, honorary treasurer of Bognor Regis Branch from 1968 until the early I980's. He joined the branch committee before the second world war and was awarded a silver badge in 1976.

Mrs A. Hambleton, chairman of Macclesfield Branch from 1985 to 1988. A member of the branch for over 40 years, Miss Hambleton was honorary secretary in 1948 and 1949 and chairman in 1973 and 1974..
