RELIABILITY ON THE SEAS...

Fairey Marinteknik & R.N.L.I A SUCCESSFUL COMBINATION ""I*?: The Cowes Shipyard has a long and proud history associated with the "Royal Lifeboat Institution".

As early as 1929/30 the original company then named 'Groves and Guttridge' built the group's first Lifeboat for the RNLI.

This lifeboat called the Liverpool Type was built in wood and on completion was stationed at Hoylake.

The Group since those early days have built no fewer than 144 lifeboats, the latest variant being the Tyne Class.

Tyne Class lifeboats are slipway launched and have double the speed of earlier slipway types.

The completely new steel hull design has made a top speed of 18 knots possible, and the watertight aluminium wheelhouse makes the boat self righting in 5 seconds.

The lifeboat is fitted with medium and very high frequency radios, radar, automatic direction finding units for both MF and VHP, echo sounders, intercom system and a Decca Navigator.
