Brigadier J. W. H. Gow, CBE DL, who was involved with the RNLI in Scotland for many years. Brigadier Gow was chairman of Glasgow branch from 1937 to 1973, from 1953 to 1985 he served on the committee of management, andbetween the years 1950 to 1986 he represented Glasgow on the executive committee of the Scottish lifeboat council.

Brigadier Gow was vice-president of the Institution from 1965 to 1978 when he became a life vice-president..
