Amble Harbour Day

Amble harbour day gained magnificent support from the local community with over £5,000 resulting from the branch and guild's efforts. The North East Windsurfers' Association raised over £2,000 of this total with their sponsored race, the Coquet Island Dash. Assistant Mechanic Tom Crazier of Amble lifeboat station made one sacrifice beyond the call of duty when he said goodbye to his 26-year-old beard. Tom had his beard shaved off in front of an audience of over 1,000 at the station's harbour day , an experience, in Tom's opinion, worse than going out in the stormiest sea conditions! However hair razing it may have been, it did raise £350.
