A report in the spring 1985 issue of the journal about ex-mayors and mayoresses partaking in collecting on lifeboat day in St Albans some 50 years ago gave rise to the committee of this branch deciding to revive the custom. Letters were sent to a number of ex-mayors and the current mayor. We had a marvellous response when 14 of them turned out and each gave at least an hour of their time helping us to reach a record collection for the week of £3,360.84. I enclose a photograph, taken by The Herts Advertiser, of the mayors and mayoresses together with our chairman Mr Roy Woodward (on the right) and a member of our committee, Mr Alan Edmunds, dressed in lifeboat uniform.— MRS B.
