To commemorate the RNLI's 160th year, an amateur radio station was set up for a weekend in August at Clacton lifeboat station, thanks to the co-operation of the crew and honorary secretary. Its 12 operators were drawn from Harlow Radio Club and Havering and District Radio Club; they made 581 contacts and reached amateur radio stations as far away as Norway, Russia, Switzerland and Italy.
