Whitby's 44ft Waveney lifeboat The White Rose of Yorkshire climbs a 25ft breaking sea in the approaches to Whitby Harbour. Returning from service in a strong north-northwesterly gale on April 8, 1982, she found conditions too dangerous to enter harbour.
