Helmsman Frank Dunster

Helmsman Frank Dunster of Hayling Island was prevented by illness from attending the RNLI's annual presentation of awards meeting in London last May to receive the bar to his bronze medal; it was awarded to him for his part in the service on September 19 when seven people were rescued from two sailboards, a cabin cruiser, a vacht and a catamaran as well as a boy clinging to a breakwater. The presentation was made, therefore, on June 18 by Lt-Cdr John Lunch, a member of the Committee of Management and president of Hayling Island lifeboat station, during a social evening at Hayling Island Sailing Club. The service, for which the silver medal was also awarded to Crew Member Roderick James and the thanks of the Institution inscribed on vellum accorded to Crew Member Graham Raines and Shore Helpers Trevor Pearce and Nigel Roper, was reported in the spring 1982 issue of THE LIFEBOAT. The crew of the lifeboat also received the 1981 Ralph Glister award (see page 113)..
