One hundred gallons of petrol, donated by BP Oils Ltd, was the prize in a draw organised by Pangbourne branch which raised £1,800 for the RNLI. The lucky ticket was drawn at the Swan Hotel by England Test cricketer Denis Compton. With him (I. to r.) are a member of the public there to see fair play, Lt-Col Godfrey Pease, Panghourne branch chairman, Mrs Frank Waldron, honorary treasurer, Mrs Chaplin, a committee member, and Mrs Godfrey Pease. The winner was Mrs Olwen Norman and officials of the branch accompanied her to Theale Motors for her car's first fill-up..
