COVER PICTURE Arun 54-03 rounding Portland Bill on passage to Plymouth: the third boat in her class, she is the 37th lifeboat donated by the Civil Service and Post Office Fund. Her hull is cold moulded wood, with a double bottom and wing buoyancy compartments. Spaces between outer and inner skins are filled with enough expanded polyurethane foam to support the boat even if her 26 watertight compartments aie holed simultaneously. The welded aluminium superstructure houses all instruments, controls and electronic equipment and seating with safety belts for the crew of five is provided in the wheelhouse.
