(Above) 44' Waveney class lifeboat, introduced from US Coast Guard in 1964, is first of the RNLI's 'fast afloat' lifeboats. Exceptionally manoeuvrable, her twin General Motors Detroit marine diesel engines give a top speed of more than 15 knots. She is selfrighting, with steel hull and aluminium superstructure, and carries a crew of five.
