Ex-Coxswain J. T. Upperton

The death has occurred of Ex-Coxswain James T. Upperton, of Shoreham, who was 78.

In 1941, as acting coxswain, Mr. Upperton was awarded the silver medal of the Institutions for rescuing 22 people from a minesweeper. Then, in 1948, Mr. Upperton was awarded a silver second service clasp for the rescue of the crew of six of a yacht. He first joined the crew in 1910, and was made coxswain in 1947..
