• In good time for Christmas is another addition to the popular 'People at Work' books in the Ladybird 'Easy-Reading' series nownumbering over 290 titles covering a wide range of subjects and reading ages. It is The Life-boat Men (Wills and Hepworth Ltd., price 15p).

Written by I. and J. Havenhand with illustrations by John Berry, this little book traces the story of the R.N.L.I. Supported by 24 coloured plates, all of which were submitted to the R.N.L.I. before publication, the text refers to the history of the life-boat, Grace Darling of the nineteenth century, the first life-boat conceptions by Lukin, Wouldhave and Greathead, Sir William Hillary, Richard Oakley (who designed the first of the R.N.L.I.'s modern selfrighting boats), and all the fleet's latest lifeboats.

There is a useful life-boat map covering Great Britain and Ireland.—C.R.E..
