Irish Government Grant
The Minister for Transport and Power in the Irish Republic, Mr. Brian Lenihan, has decided to make a payment to the Institution of an annual grant of £10,000 towards the cost of operating the life-boat services in the Irish Republic. In his letter he states: 'It is my intention that this measure of assistance should not jeopardise in any way the independence which the Institution treasures, and which is the basis of the magnificent voluntary service which it renders.' 'KNOCKERS' The "knockers" ought to get their priorities right —this happens to be the greatest voluntary organisation anywhere in the world. . . .
