P535

Bembridge, Isle of Wight - At 11.44 a.m. on 24th March, 1970, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that a red flare had been sighted off Bembridge Ledge. The life-boat Jack Shayler and the Lees was launched at 11.56. There was a fresh east north easterly breeze with a rough sea. The tide was flooding. At 12.5 p.m. she came up with the fishing boat P535. There were threepeople on board. The life-boat took her in tow to Camber Dock. Because of the weather conditions the lifeboat remained at Camber Dock until low water, returning to her station at 4.5..
