Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin - At 3.36 p.m. on 14th September, 1969, a member of the National yacht club told the life-boat coxswain that he had seen distress flares between the west pier and Poolbeg, about two miles from the former. The life-boat John F. Kennedy slipped her moorings at 3.44 in a fresh, squally easterly wind with a choppy sea. Thetide was ebbing. At 3.52 she came up with the yacht Garavogue with a broken mast. The life-boat took the yacht, together with the five people on board, in tow to harbour, returning to her station at 4.10..
