A Fishing Boat

Barra Island, Outer Hebrides - At 9.20 p.m. on 25th July, 1969, news was received that a fishing boat with a crew of two was overdue from the Mingulay fishing grounds. The lifeboat The Rankin, on temporary duty at the station, slipped her moorings at 9.50 in a moderate south westerly wind with a rough sea. It was high water. Parachute flares fired by the life-boat were eventually seen and acknowledged by the fishing boat, which was found about eight miles west of Mingulay. She was taken in two to Vatersay, and the life-boat returned to her station at 2.30 a.m.
