Skegness, Lincolnshire - At 1.37 p.m.
on 29th August, 1969, the coastguard reported that a dinghy had fired a red flare about one mile east of Skegness pier. The life-boat Charles Fred Grantham was launched at 2 o'clock in a strong north westerly wind with a rough sea. It was one hour before low water. The IRB was also launched. The life-boat came up with the dinghy at 2.40. The dinghy was waterlogged and her engine had broken down. The crew of two and the dinghy were taken on board the life-boat and landed at Skegness. The IRB returned to her station at 3 o'clock and the life-boat at 3.20..
