Bembridge, Isle of Wight - At 4.43 p.m. on 1st May, 1969, a local resident told the honorary secretary that a yacht was firing flares about one mile east of the life-boat station. At 4.54 the life-boat Jesse Lumb slipped her moorings in a moderate east north easterly breeze with a corresponding sea. It was low water. She came up with the yacht Blue Bell with two people on board. Her engine had broken down and her crew were unable to trim the rigging.
