Provider

Workington, Cumberland - At 9.15 a.m. on 27th September, 1958, the coastguard sent an anticipatory message to the coxswain tha the fishing boat Provider, with two men on board, which had left Harrington on the previous afternoon, was overdue.

At 11 o'clock the life-boat Manchester and Salford XXIX slipped her moorings in a strong west south westerly gale with a rough sea. It was low water. She found the Provider one mile south west of Workington with her engine broken down. The crew were taken aboard the life-boat which then took the fishing boat in tow to Workington. The life-boat returned to her station at 12.15 p.m..
