The S.S. Explorer, of Leith

Thurso, Caithness-shire - At 10.30 a.m. on 12th March, 1968, a message was received that a member of the crew of the s.s. Explorer of Leith had suffered a heart attack. The life-boat Pentland (Civil Service No. 31) was launched at 11.30. It was high water and the weather was fine. The steamer was reached at 11.45 and the sick man was embarked. He was landed at 12.30 p.m. and the life-boat was rehoused at 1.15..
