Bembridge, Isle of Wight - At 3.43 p.m. on 3rd October, 1967, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a yacht with her engine broken down and her sail torn was firing flares four miles south south east of Ventnor. The life-boat Jesse Lumb was launched at 3.55 in a moderate south westerly breeze and moderate sea. The tide was ebbing.

At 4.3 the life-boat was informed that a submarine was altering course and proceeding to the yacht. The life-boat reported she was half a mile off Dunrose head, but had seen nothing. The submarine fired flares to direct the life-boat to the casualty.

By 5.43 the life-boat had passed a line to the trimaran Threesome with a crew of four on board. The trimaran was listing badly and the tow was difficult. A helicopter from Thorney island offered to winch the people from the casualty, but they decided to stay on board. The life-boat continued the tow to Under Tyne where the trimaran was moored.

Three of the crew were brought ashore and the fourth elected to stay on board. The life-boat returned to her station at 9.9..
