Question In the House

In the House of Commons on llth December, 1967, there was a written question put by Mr. Edward Rowlands, M.P. for Cardiff North, on the R.N.L.L Mr. Rowlands asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he would take steps to provide a grant to the R.N.L.I. in order to further its work.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu, Minister of State, said: 'The R.N.L.I. has not asked for a grant and ... it prefers to be completely independent.' The Institution, it was stated, provided an excellent life-saving service and there was no reason for the Government to intervene..
