Cannibal

Porthdinllaen, Caernarvonshire - At 4.10 p.m. on 2nd September, 1967, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that the motor boat Cannibal, which had broken down, was drifting with the strong flood tide and would very soon be ashore under Garray-y-Fron. The life-boat Charles Henry Ashley was launched at 5.50 in a moderate south westerly breeze and a moderate sea. The tide was flooding. Three of the four people on board the Cannibal were embarked and the motor boat was taken in tow to Porthdinllaen harbour.

On returning to the slipway the coxswain noticed a sailing dinghy capsize several times. There was one crew member on board. The life-boat escorted the dinghy to smoother waters. Another sailing boat was then sighted and she too was escorted to safety. The life-boat returned to her station at 6.30..
