Universal Dipper

The Mumbles, Glamorganshire - At 9.40 a.m. on 6th June, 1967, a report was received that the motor fishing vessel Universal Dipper was aground half a mile west of Sker Point. As the vessel was high and dry it was decided to delay the launching of the life-boat until high water. The life-boat William Gammon, Manchester and District XXX was launched at 2.36 p.m. There was a moderate westerly breeze and a corresponding sea.

The vessel was unable to refloat under her own power. Tow lines were passed by the IRB from Porthcawl, and the lifeboat attempted to tow the vessel off. The life-boat was unable to free the vessel, despite several attempts, and so she returned to her station which was reached at 8 o'clock..
