Eastbourne, Sussex - At 9.42 p.m. on 3 ist July, 1967 it was learnt that the Beachy Head lighthouse keeper had reported flares half a mile south east of the station. The life-boat Beryl Tollemache was launched at 10 o'clock in a smooth sea.

The tide was ebbing. The life-boat found the cabin cruiser Poseidon with two people on board with engine trouble. The cruiser was taken in tow to Newhaven harbour and the life-boat returned to her station at 3.35 a.m. on ist August..
